Tokyo tops Paris for the title of most 3 star restaurants

Tokyo leaped to the top of the food chain, literally after Michelin named it the city with the most three-star restaurants. The latest Michelin guide awarded 11 restaurants in Tokyo Japan the elusive three-star rating over 10 eateries in Paris.

Some of the winners in Tokyo were not pleased by the results. Some chefs did not want to be in the Michelin book. Several of the Japanese 3 star restaurants are small privately owned and managed by owner operator chefs. A few of the winners told IBUKI Magazine that the response has been too overwhelming making it extremely difficult to manage reservations and increased demand.

Two thirds of the 197 restaurants that Michelin selected from the 160,000 restaurants in Tokyo serve Japanese cuisine, with the remaining serving French, Italian, Chinese, Spanish or a fusion of Japanese and euro combined.
